12-year-old hosts a pool day, friends return the next day uninvited and refuse to leave, then scold the host for swimming in her own backyard without them: ‘My "Friends" got mad at me for using my own pool’

Twelve years old, new inflatable pool set up like a backyard moon landing, and a few classmates come over for a sanctioned splash day. The pool is modest, about three and a half meters across, but for kids it reads as Atlantis with cup holders. Everyone leaves sun-tired and happy, then immediately volunteers the backyard for a sequel without asking the person who owns the water. 

Next day, doorbell. The same kids show up like they have season passes and a locker in the staff room. They invite themselves in, argue to stay "for just a bit," and even suggest the host can leave while they continue swimming, which is a bold strategy in both etiquette and trespassing. It takes thirty minutes to explain the radical concept that access requires permission, not optimism.

  • An hour later, the actual residents get in the pool, and the uninvited return like mall cops with badges from the imagination store. They accuse the host of lying, of using a personal pool without community oversight, and of violating a rule that exists only in group chat law. Picture kids shouting HOA bylaws at a puddle. It would be funny if it were not so exhausting. 

  • So this happened when i was 12, and we just bought a pool (it was an iflatible pool maybe 3,5 m wide so nothing too grand but at the time it was a big deal), and one day i decided i wanted to invite my "friends" over to play in it, and it was honestly really fun we spend almost the whole day playing.

  • Now here is the thing when they were leaving they asked me if they can come tomorrow to play again in the pool, now i already knew my family had some plans for tomorrow so i told them idk we'll see.

  • The next day we had to cancel our plan and so we stayed home when all of a sudden i hear the doorbell and when i open the door it's my "friends" who came to play in the pool, and honestlly i was not happy to see them.

  • First off all they invited themselfs over without my permission and second they wouldn't leave when i sead they can't use the pool, i told them that im leaving soon to go somwhere and i won't be home, but they still insisted to stay for "just a bit",

  • A few weeks go by and the grievance gets revived in front of other classmates for maximum drama, as if the Supreme Court of Sprinklers has reconvened. The pattern is clear. These were not guests; they were self-appointed lifeguards of someone else’s property. 

  • and at one point they even sead "you can go we'll be fine without you" like wow thanks so much for caring about me it took me more than 30 minutes to chase them off cause they didn't wanna leave.

  • Maybe an hour later me and my sister went into the pool and we were relaxing when all of a sudden my "friends" came into my yard (it was visible from a side street) and started atacking me for lying to them and chasing them off,

  • A few days later we "made up" and it was all good until a month or so later they brought up the topic again in front of my other "friends" and they just start attacking me asking why did i use my pool and didn't let them use it as well and so on,

  • Now many years later i think the reason they came even when i didn't invite them is that they knew i was i pushover and a people pleaser, so they were expecting that i wouldn't turn them down, and they got mad when things didn't go their way.
